I have spent the last week scanning news posting on deja (google) metalink and any other source I could find with no solution.

The problem, I cannot create a database on RH 7.0 with Oracle 8.1.6.1.0 when I try to startup a database with the nomount option a child process becomes defunct after about a minutes and svrmgrl just hangs. The same thngs happens with sql plus. According to most postings this is a problem with the GNU libraires well I have upgraded them and it still does not work.

Has anyone encountered this problem and resolved it.

thanks
