Try ORACLE.

Depending on the budget, I suggest that you get a copy of the Oracle Press book ORACLE 8i for WINDOWS NT, Starter Kit. ISBN 0-07-212248-X $49.99 but I got it for 30.00 at a computer swap meet.

While it is for NT it does have good explanations, examples and explanation start from the beginning.
