the primary advantage of the 64-bit release is that it allows for larger shared memory segments (i.e. the SGA) than the 32-bit release does. a majority of the code in the 64-bit release (aside from the changes for larger memory addresses) is still 32-bit code.
the 64-bit releases and patchsets have historically lagged behind the 32-bit releases and patchsets.
it seems to me that i would need 4GB of physical memory on the server before i would want to size the SGA over 2GB.
