I'm not a specialist in that area. However, a few years ago I spent some time with a client here that was heavily into GIS. From what I recall, they were quite happy with the inherent functionality in a RDBMS. Something to do with tables, PKs, FKs, stored procedures and so. I understood at the time, but I can't remember the details. The gist of it is that it was apparently very easy for them to put their GIS stuff into ORACLE. I'm just passing on what I heard from the mob doing it. They had other RDBMS s/w too, but they were extremely happy with ORACLE. What can I say...
