I really don't believe the problem is the CD - while I personally haven't installed 8.1.7 on NT, I can assure you that QA at Oracle has. If the CD image is incorrect, it would be widely known. It's also not likely that the new CD's will be any different from the ones you already have. Unless there is a new patch level, then they will just send you the version you already have. Please try the following suggestions, which I had already sent you in an email to the snyper_at_uniserve.com address

  1. Make sure there is no other copy of OCI.DLL on you system somewhere - this is a widely distributed DLL with third party tools. For instance, if you have installed Micrsofts ODBC or OLE-DB drivers for Oracle, you are likely to have a copy of this already on your system. This can cause errors such as "library not found", which is what, without the specific error in your case, I'm guessing is happening.
  2. Make sure ORACLE_HOME/bin is in your PATH - in the system level environment variable, not in the environment variables associated with the user.
  3. If you have edited the registry yourself, you are probably going to be in a world of pain. Do you have another NT machine that you can try an install on with your current CDs ? Even a laptop with workstation can be used to validate the install. Please note that there is no officially supported way from Oracle of editing the registry directly to get a clean machine. If you follow up to the private email I sent you with my at work email address, I will send you details on how you can "unofficially" clean up the registry.
