As part of our Y2K work, we had to move a 500Gb database to a new server.

We chose to use a fast-unload utility provided by BMC software, then ftp, then direct-path load via sqlldr.

It's been two years, and I've forgotten many of the details, but it was certainly the best solution available at the time.

A similar product was available from Platinum.

I think Oracle8 introduced direct-path exports. I don't think direct-path imports are available yet, though.
