Thanks Fred, your information was very helpful. I was comparing different series of drives, actual cost difference is about $100-$120 between 9g and 18g.

This is my first go with oracle and I would like to hear any advice you (or anyone else) could give for disk setup.
Like:
Should the data be on different spindles than the logs, temp, rollback, etc. or or just a different LUN?
Is the performance gain from using raw disks worth it? Using raw disks, is it possible to use part of the stripe for say u03 and another for u05 (in informix you could specify a size and an offset)? Any common mistakes that are made...

Users of this database will only ever read from the database, and data will be loaded via scripts once an hour. I will be using a Sun E450 with 4x400Mhz 4MbCache CPUs, 2Gb Ram, and I have been planning to have 12-18Gb HDDs on 3-40MB SCSI channels(Should I push mgmt. to get me the 2nd 8 bay expansion kit just for the SCSI channels?).

Thanks again for your help!
Ernie
