A database migration procedure must be performed to change the word size of the Oracle database from 32-bit to 64-bit. The procedure documented in A76957-01 Oracle 8i Migration does not include an export/import.

The advantage of the 64-bit version, of course, is that it allows for an SGA larger than the limit imposed by the 32-bit version.
