I quick THANKS to Karen for pointing this out. I had made the changes to the /etc/system for increased shared memory, but I had a typo in the variable names, so I still had the original shared memory configuration. Once I corrected those and rebooted, this error ceased.

My environment is Solaris 2.7 on a Sun e250.
