If you are backing up 'live' Oracle files, you may be asking for potential problems...
Either shutdown the database before doing a cold backup, or set up a 'hot' backup scenario that puts tablespace(s) into backup mode and resets them after copying it ( if you isolate your tablespace data disks from your log file disk(s), no activity will happen on the 'backup mode' tablespace drive(s) - or use an 3rd party Agent ( like ArcServ's ) that 'knows' about Oracle...
