Such error is usually being caused by
a not setting ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME
b installing under root
c incorrect protection for the Oracle executables above all the setuid
bit on the Oracle executable itself. The correct protections are listed
in the Getting Started Manual, chapter 4.
