Yes. I went through the same hell recently. i am a very experienced programmer; I even have Oracle development experience. but installing personal Oracle 8i for Windows 98 was a major challenge. Not the installation itself, but connecting to the running server. I finally figured it out.

Ask specific questions and I'll answer. To start with, Oracle Enerprise Edition will not run on win 98. your best bet is a download (160+MB) of personal Oracle 8i for Win98 from Oracle site.
