Oracle 8i 8.1.7 on Solaris 8

Can anyone out there report a successful installation of Oracle 8i 8.1.7 on Solaris 8. I've tried about a dozen times to do a Typical install. I've set etc/system variables correctly, downloaded the latest Solaris 8 patches from sunsolve, followed the 8.1.7 instructions to a T, and still everytime I get to the Database Configuration Assistant phase I get the error "ORA-03114 not connected to ORACLE".

If this is any clue, the initial installation of Enterprise Edition seems to complete fine and it's in the configuration tools section where the error occurs. Net8 Configuration Assistant installs correctly and if I abort the Database Configuration Assistant, the web server installs correctly.

If after the install, i run sqlplus as internal and do a "startup nomount" I get the following two errors:

LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '?/dbs/init@.ora' ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters

If I try to run dbassist after the install and create a database, I get the same "ORA-03114 not connected to ORACLE" error.

If anyone in Atlanta can come to our office and make this work, I will pay them to do so. Callme at 770-414-5007.
