Sybrand,

Thanks for taking the time to post your suggestion. I tried it but no luck.

My oradim.log file has one entry:

ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed

However, the file hasn't been modified since 12/3, and I've been starting Oracle daily. I would expect to see it modified today.

I tried changing the password using orapwd but the service still hangs.

Any other ideas?
