Oracle 8i and JDBC

I'm using Oracle 8i personal edition on Win98 and I can't the the JdbcCheckup.java program, which comes with Oracle8i to connect to the database.

I don't know what to put in when the program prompts for a TNSname.

Right now I don't know whether I simply didn't get the name right or that I didn't configure something correctly in order to make a JDBC connection to it

any help would be greatly appreciated
