Oracle8i on Windows 2000

Recently installed Oracle8i on a Windows 2000 server. No problems to connect to it with SQLPLUS, Forms, Reports from the server itself. However, if I try to connect from Windows Professional, with one of the just mentioned products, I get a protocol error, although I copied the tnsnames.ora from Windows 2000 into Windows Professional. This normally does the job, no problemns to connect.
Anybody there, who knows how to solve this issue??
