The pmon trace contains:

/opt/app/oracle/admin/uky1/bdump/pmon_1977.trc Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.6.1.0 - Production With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.6.0.0 - Production
ORACLE_HOME = /opt/app/oracle/816
System name: Linux

Node name:      lab1pp.yac.com
Release:        2.2.14-12
Version:        #1 Tue Apr 25 13:04:07 EDT 2000
Machine:        i686

Instance name: uky1
Redo thread mounted by this instance: 0 <none> Oracle process number: 2
Unix process pid: 1977, image: oracle_at_lab1pp.yac.com (PMON)

I have read somewhere that a corrupt block can cause the dbw0 to fall over and cause an instance crash, which indirectly would affect the PMON?
