Hi,
First up RTFM
NEVER install Orafice as ROOT.
Follow this for a successful install everytime:
0) RTFM - set your shared memory params etc..... 1) Create the Oracle User and DBA group 2) Mount the CD ISO9660 format..... 3) Log in as Oracle 4) CD to the cdrom 5) cd to orainst 6) run install.sh
NOTES: The stuff will be sucked off the Cd and stuck on the hard disk. If you want a starter database just answer 'y' at the appropriate prompt.
Make sure you have a /usr/local/bin type directory - you need dbhome oraenv and coraenv in here and /usr/local/bin in your PATH
That's about all.
