Why to go with Solaris and Sun:

• Sun systems doesn't use PC style bus technologies (not talking about x86 Solaris) - The have bus technologies which is so much better that the PC architecture that no comaprison is necessary
• Sun's hardware architecture is based upon some og the CRAY technologies - The mother of supercomputing
• Filesystems - Veritas is available and support raw-device-like performance checkout : http://www.sun.com/service/sunps/enterprise/vos/index.html Veritas, Oracle and Sun has a strategic allicance
• If we are talking 24x7x365 linux cluster and failover is not a developed as Sun/Solaris
• If you think Linux is stable - multiply that with a factor <insert large number here>
• Service!!! - Who will you turn to when the shit comes down on your Linux??

I have a saying : You get what you pay for! This applies to Sun
