There is more to it then just the name change. The old VMS ran on a variety of non-risc VAX machines. When risc machines were introduced (Alpha) DEC made changes to accomdate that and in the process added a bunch of new functionality.

From a "user" point of view not much happened becaused there were few changes in DCL. From a SysAdmin point of view there were some significant changes. From a systems programmer point of view the changes were enormous and sometimes meant monumental changes to the way that certain things were done. Received on Wed Oct 25 2000 - 14:45:04 CDT
