I tried to install Oracle 8i R2 on RedHat 7.0. The database creation process just hangs at the intializing database step (80%).
Could this be a problem related to shared memory segments and semaphores of the linux kernel? Is this the difference between Suse which is optimized for Oracle or RedHat Enterprise and the normal distibution (memory optimization)? I saw that RedHat 7.0 has a maximum shared memory segment of 32M, which is way below what Oracle asks for (0.5 * physical memory). I have 192M RAM. Oracle says in their documentation that if the memory is not configured correctly the SGA will not be able to start. However they also says that if you set memory segments and semaphores pameters too high the system may not be able to boot.
Could someone suggest me the correct settings for kernel parameters?

Thank You

P.S. Please excuse me for my bad english!
