Absolutely. That's the whole point of archives.

Yes, provided you don't try and restore the Control Files and/or Redo Logs (online). You will however be applying archives to the entire database instead of to one particular file, and hence you can expect recovery to take a good deal longer than it otherwise would. Regards HJR
