Can we use Oracle 7 client for this situation?

Hi, we have installed Oracle 8.1.6 server successfully, but when we
tried to install the client on another machine which we use most often
in order to connect to the server, we found that the machine runs
Solaris 2.5, which can't support Oracle 8.
So, can we use Oracle 7 client instead? Can that run on Solaris 2.5? And
can it connect to Oracle 8 server?
