Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, the NFS (client, server, and lock) daemons and NIS client daemons were running on this HP-UX 11.0 box, yet the 8.1.6 install still hangs.

I tried rebooting, in case one of the daemons was wedged, but that didn't help -- I still got a hang when I tried the 8.1.6 install, as the exact same place, "Processing Oracle Protocol Support 8...".

FWIW, this is a HP model 9000/800/D390

BTW, what's "Metalink"? Those two articles you posted looked useful.
