I agree it must be some sort of vm problem although I cannot figure out where. I have checked the shmxxx stuff and they are ok. This is a new install of Linux 2.14 on a Gateway 7210 server w 18g disk and 512m memory. tmp/swap is clean. No other apps are on this box. I have an identical machine running as our filter/cache box and do not have any trouble with it. I guess we will just have to buy a Sun Sparc and pay the $ to get commercial Oracle. Or just forget about it and find something else to do. Thanks for your help and if you come up with something, please let me know.
