If what you say is true, it appears that the documentation is wrong.

One of the nice things about Oracle documentation is that they usually provide a page where you can send them your comments. (It is probably easier to find this in the pdf version of the documentation.) The email address is infodev_at_us.oracle.com. If you think you found an error, they would probably like to hear about it.
