The eWEEK (formerly PCWeek) column Spenser F. Katt, dated 9/10/00, available at:
http://www.zdnet.com/eweek/stories/general/0,11011,2625949,00.html

Reports that Oracle database versions "8.1.6 or earlier" could corrupt the control file if the database runs for more than 248 consecutive days without a server reboot. The workaround is to reboot the server before it reaches this many days.

This sounds serious. Does anyone know anything about this?
