Since you are messing with named pipes, i assume, that you are running Oracle server on Windows NT? Correct?

Was the TCP/IP protocol stack on NT server installed *before* you installed the Oracle software? If not, then the Oracle installer did not automatically install the TCP/IP protocol adapter layer. You must run the Oracle installer and install the TCP/IP protocol adapter. Then you can transport your Net*8 over TCP.
