yes mike, you need to have Oracle clinet on the applicatoin workstation before you could connect to Oracle server. Isn't it that both the Oracle and Microsoft ODBC drivers complain of absence of Oracle clinet while configuring them. ODBC, or any other data access layer, has to talk to Oracle Net8 network layer to establish a connection between a client and a server.

The same is true if you wanna use the Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle.
