Though you dont state that it is duing installing -I guess it is the Universal Installer which gives this error message when you run runInstaller

Check your JRE and/or environment (classlib, path etc) - should be JRE 1.1.6 or 1.2.x - I've used 1.1.6 and it worked fine. check out www.blackdown.org for java for linux
