hi
i came across a weird problem. My database was running smooth. The listener was running fine. But when i tried to shutdown the database, it won't go down. I tried 'shutdown normal' and 'shutdown immediate'. These shutdown commands made oracle not available but the OS processes were still present. But when i used 'shutdown abort' all the processes got killed and the database came down. To make things fine, i restarted the database and went for a normal shutdown. Still the same problem occurred. So i again used shutudown abort to shutdown the database. Now the database is running fine. But i do not know whether it will shutdown properly. Could anybody explain this?

Thanks

EN Nadu
