Thanks for the reply.  I tried the REWRITE hint and it still wouldn't
rewrite with the ORDER BY in there.  I even fed the name of the MV
explicitly to the REWRITE hint.



I posted to Oracle Technet; at this point I'm thinking it's a bug.
