Oracle 8i, in my opinion is a much more powerful full-featured RDBMS.

SQL Server 2000, on the other hand comes with things that 8i doesn't have:
o Data Mining
o OLAP
o DTS
o Better Visual Studio integration

I use both on the same machine - 8i for the RDBMS, SQL Server for everything else.
