ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed

I installed 8.1.5 on Solaris 2.6 and get this error when I attempt to
startup Oracle in SVRMGRL. The docs tell me to look at the OS error (how do
I do that?) and call Oracle customer service. Does anybody have any
ideas/pointers?
