Cal, there are lots of ways to connect to Oracle but your question is not as simple as it might appear....

-what choices do you have for developing client software (VB only, C/C++, scripting) and OS
-how many remote users, update/query ratio and transaction rate ? -are the remote users clustered (like a remote office) or spread out (like traveling sales reps) ?

-how sensitive is the data (weather reports vs employee salary history) ?
-how often is the database updated ?
-do you have the resources (people/money/training) to develop custom software ?
-how soon *must* this be working ?
