Net Service Connections

In Oracle 8 I'm trying to setup my Net Service.  When I test the
connection to the database I get the following error message:



ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SID in CONNECT_DATA



This is my first Oracle effort, so any help would be appreciated.  The
problem may stem from the fact that I have 2 Oracle homes installed,
runing different versions of Oracle.
