Exporting Microsoft Access Tables to Oracle

I exported some Microsoft Access Tables to Oracle 8 using Oracle's ODBC Driver. The tables were properly exported including the data. However, I noticed that Oracle changed the numeric fields of some tables to varchar. I need these fields to be in numeric. When I attempt to change the data type using Schema Manager I get the error: "ORA-01439 column to be modified must be empty to change data type".

Is there an easy way for me to export these tables properly or to change the data types easily?
