I think you've got this totally wrong. Microsoft didn't withdraw their benchmark numbers. They were notified by TPC that their numbers were being withdrawn for them. Microsoft had no say in the matter. If Microsoft did anything it was to "save face" and agree with TPC's results. Someone (who is still un-named) challenged the results. TPC took a look at the challenge and ruled against Microsoft in this case.

How does Microsoft plan to challenge the newest TPC benchmark set by DB2? This benchmark was announced the same day that SQL Server's benchmark was pulled. Unless Microsoft does some major recoding (unlikely at this point), I don't see how they'll be able to best DB2's efforts.
