The database files are *not* compatible as the format of the rowid has changed. Evil tongues want it the sole reason this change was made, was to get rid of Forms 3, which doesn't support the new format. That said, you'll need to be aware of three things - 7.3.3 has been desupported a long time ago - 7.3.4 will go end of life on December 31,2000 and that's the end of Oracle 7. I assume you'll need to make that clear to your client, so they will not sue you on January 1, 2001
- the only way to downgrade is to run catexp7.sql against the Oracle 8 database and run the Oracle 7 export tool against the Oracle 8 database, provided the sqlnet 2 tnsnames.ora has an entry to the Oracle 8 database. This will create a dump file in Oracle 7 format, which can then be imported.
