Re: What segment extended & when?

I'm planning on putting some extent tracking into my Oracle monitoring tool, GNUmetrics. This is the plan as it stands.

• It will have a few default charts that track # extents by tablespace, owner, type etc... not too many just a few to give you an idea of whats going on and where.
• Option to grab all objects and track extent creation. By default it won't chart any of them (The tool that does the charting MRTG would choke on more than a 1000 or so objects). If you don't know how the program works it doesn't store any of the history in Oracle, just the current value and the diff from last value, also min and max. It will only run once or twice per day and thus over a week or two is will grab the min and max delta's so you get an idea of what is norm. Then you can choode to chart a few of them and set alerts on the rest. If in the future you reach a new max you will get an email.

I think this solution provides a pretty good way of monitoring extent allocation at the table/index level without banging the instance too much.

Let me know if this outline would be usefull or not.
