Re: Migrating Oracle 8.0.5 to 8.0.6 or 8.1.x on NT

We have done the migration form 8.0.5 to 8.1.6 (and from NT to WIndows 2000) and are automating it in order to upgrade > 100 of our customers sites.

We basically followed the steps outlined in the 8.1.6 Migration Guide. There is one tricky part which is creation of the listener, but if you use the migration wizard it should be straightforward. We needed a way to script it which was a bit tricky getting the correct command and response file.

One potential gotcha is a bug which exists prior to 8.1.6 which could introduce corruption in the data dictionary. You have to analyze all the objects in the system tablespace to make sure the corruption isn't present. Otherwise after you upgrade your db may crash. 8.1.6 does automatic block checking by default.
