Hello,

I have recently installed a fresh copy of Oracle 8.1.6.0 on a test machine which seems to have installed successfully. I can bring up SQL Plus on that test machine and connect to the database. However, on the client machine I go into the Net8 Assistant and create a new service name and go to test it, I get the following error:

Attempting to connect using userid: system The test did not succeed.
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist

There may be an error in the fields entered, or the server may not be ready for a connection.

I have tried the tnsping using my failed service name and it says ok, but I still can't make my connection to the database. Any ideas on debugging this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
