nls_what? MS Word chars in Oracle

Hi, everybody;

i am transferring the contents of MS SQL Server DB into Oracle 8i - using DBI script i created. Everything is fine - except all special chars - like those you can insert in MS Word - are converted into regular ASCII more or less :-) equivalent :-)

Does anybody know nls_what i should set - client? server? ALTER SESSION? ALTER DATABASE? both? I am confused - after reading tons of documents - and trying different combinations.
