In most cases, since Oracle uses gethostbyname() to make this determination, it is the network associated with what is returned by the hostname command. To get Oracle to use the private interconnect, you would need to change the hostname of the machine to point to the IP address of the private interconnect. Most UNIX variants of OPS (Solaris, HP at least) work this way. I heard a rumor that there will be a way to specify this in an upcoming release in the init.ora file.
