Introductory Database Book

I'm an experienced IT professional who is transitioning to DB administration. I'm looking for an introductory book on Relational and Object Databases. The book should cover basic concepts, DB system architecture, DB design, and the Relational model. The contents of the book should be of a general nature and not pertain to any specific commercial product. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
