listener problem

I'm trying to read an 8.1.5 db running on HP-UX 10.20 from a 7.3.4 db
on a similar box, using a database link.



The destination listener is v 8.1.5 and is up. The port is correctly
defined.



All attempts to connect to the destination (tnsping, select....@...)
result in variations on the "No listener" theme.
I can happily ping the destination machine.



Any clues?
