If this is the usual NT install a few remarks apply:
- The most rigorous procedure to avoid any problems is to install 8.1.6 in a
different Oracle_HOME. This will consume a lot of disk space, but it will
work.
- If your database was created using the install procedure (so you have an
instance called ORCL) and you are installing in the same Oracle home, avoid
creating a starter database during the 8.1.6 install.
I would guess though 'database 8.1.6' refers to the software only.
Usually also the Installation and User Guide (commonly called IUG) is quite rigorous about describing *exactly* what happens.
