     Oracle allows for online ("hot") backups. You must be in archive log mode. See the Oracle DBA admin guide. The restore is worth testing a time or two on another box. That way, when you're under pressure to recover a live database that has experienced a media failure, you already know what you're doing and how to do it. jc
