Manual Switch of Logfile

This may be a dumb question, but I noticed that there are two methods
to force a logfile switch:



    
  
  1.   ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;





and



2) ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT;


Why are there two different commands to do the same thing?
