Correct usage of dbstart/dbshut at system boot

I've got a few questions about the correct usage of dbstart and dbshut at system boot/reboot.

Running Oracle 8i on Solaris 2.7

  1. Should dbstart/shut even be used. I heard it has problems???? If not used, what is the best way to start/stop Oracle
  2. when dbstart/shut is called from rc2.d, (via symbolic link to to a script in init.d), should it be run as the oracle id? (i.e. su - oracle -c "dbstart").

Thanks in adance for any help!!!

Mike
